Day 2: Delhi to Chandigarh
Highlights: Drive through the plains, planned capital city
Drive from Delhi to Chandigarh, approximately 5 hours. Chandigarh is one of India's few planned cities, designed by architect Le Corbusier. On arrival, visit the Rock Garden if time permits, a unique sculpture park built from recycled industrial waste. Overnight in Chandigarh.
End of day: Early rest in preparation for the mountain drive to Manali.
Day 3: Chandigarh to Manali
Highlights: Beas River valley, pine forests, mountain scenery
An early morning departure for Manali - approximately 7–8 hours of scenic mountain driving. The route follows the Beas River through lush valleys, apple orchards, and pine forests. Arrive in Manali by evening. Manali sits at approximately 2,050 metres above sea level. Overnight in Manali.
End of day: Begin altitude acclimatization, stay hydrated, and take it easy.
Day 4: Manali – Acclimatisation & Exploration
Highlights: Hadimba Temple, Old Manali, Solang Valley
A rest and acclimatization day in Manali. Visit the ancient Hadimba Devi Temple nestled among tall deodar trees, stroll through the lanes of Old Manali, and optionally visit Solang Valley for views of the surrounding snow peaks. Light activities only; acclimatization is essential before venturing to higher altitudes. Overnight in Manali.
End of day: Rest well - the high-altitude drives begin tomorrow.
Day 5: Manali to Sarchu
Highlights: Rohtang Pass, Baralacha La, dramatic high-altitude terrain
One of the most exhilarating drives in India is Manali to Sarchu via Rohtang Pass (3,978 m) and Baralacha La (4,890 m). The landscape transforms dramatically from green mountain forests to barren moonscapes. Sarchu, situated at approximately 4,253 meters on the Manali–Leh Highway, serves as an overnight stop on the plateau.
End of day: Altitude acclimatization is critical here; drink plenty of water and avoid exertion.
Day 6: Sarchu to Leh
Highlights: Gata Loops, Nakee La, Lachung La, Taglang La
Continue the high-altitude drive from Sarchu to Leh, passing the famous Gata Loop, 21 hairpin bends, and the high passes of Nakee La (4,739 m), Lachung La (5,065 m), and Taglang La (5,328 m), one of the world's highest motorable passes. Arrive in Leh, the capital of Ladakh, in the afternoon. Overnight in Leh.
End of day: Full rest on arrival; acclimatization in Leh is essential.
Day 7: Leh – Acclimatisation & Monastery Visits
Highlights: Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, Thiksey Monastery
A full acclimatization day in Leh (3,500 m). Visit Leh Palace - a 17th-century royal palace overlooking the old city - and the Shanti Stupa with panoramic views of the valley. In the afternoon, drive to Thiksey Monastery, an impressive 12-story complex modeled on the Potala Palace in Tibet. Overnight in Leh.
End of day: Reflect on the architectural and spiritual heritage of Ladakh.
Day 8: Leh to Nubra Valley
Highlights: Khardung La, Diskit Monastery, Bactrian camel safari
Cross Khardung La (approximately 5,359 m), one of the highest motorable roads in the world, and descend into Nubra Valley. Visit Diskit Monastery, the oldest in the valley, and experience a camel safari on the Hunder dunes with rare double-humped Bactrian camels against a backdrop of snow peaks. Overnight in Nubra.
End of day: A surreal contrast, dunes and Himalayan peaks in the same frame.
Day 9: Nubra to Pangong Lake
Highlights: Shyok River valley, Pangong Tso's colour-changing waters
Drive from Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake via the Shyok River route. Arrive at Pangong Tso (4,350 m), a 134 km-long brackish lake that spans the India-China border. Witness the lake's extraordinary color-shifting quality as it transitions from deep blue to turquoise throughout the day. Overnight at Pangong Lake.
End of day: Wake early the next morning for the best light on the lake.
Day 10: Pangong to Hanle
Highlights: Remote Changthang plateau, Hanle Monastery, dark-sky stargazing
Drive deep into the Changthang plateau to Hanle, one of India's least visited and most remote destinations, at approximately 4,500 meters. Hanle is known for the Indian Astronomical Observatory and some of India's best dark skies. Visit the 17th-century Hanle Monastery overlooking the village. Overnight in Hanle.
End of day: If skies are clear, step outside at night for extraordinary stargazing.
Day 11: Hanle – Umling La – Mig La – Hanle
Highlights: Umling La (world's highest motorable road), Mig La pass
A day excursion from Hanle, venturing to Umling La, at approximately 5,883 meters, the world's highest motorable road. This stretch offers a breathtaking perspective of high-altitude Himalayan terrain. The route also passes Mig La, another significant high pass in the region. Return to Hanle by evening. Overnight in Hanle.
End of day: A once-in-a-lifetime altitude achievement, take it slow and safe.
Day 12: Hanle to Leh
Highlights: Return drive through Changthang, Leh bazaar
Drive back from Hanle to Leh through the vast Changthang plateau. On arrival in Leh, explore the local bazaar, browse Tibetan handicrafts, jewelry, and woolens, and enjoy a final evening in Ladakh. Overnight in Leh.
End of day: A reflective final evening in Ladakh.
Day 13: Leh – Delhi – Agra
Highlights: Flight to Delhi, onward transfer to Agra
Fly from Leh to Delhi in the morning. On arrival in Delhi, transfer directly to Agra - approximately 3–4 hours by road or train. Check into your Agra hotel and rest in preparation for the sunrise Taj Mahal visit. Overnight in Agra.
End of day: Transition from the high mountains to the Mughal heartland of India.
Day 14: Agra – Taj Mahal, Agra Fort & Departure
Highlights: Taj Mahal at sunrise, Agra Fort, departure to Delhi
Rise early for a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal - a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The white marble mausoleum is at its most ethereal in early morning light. Later, visit the imposing Agra Fort, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, before transferring back to Delhi. Tour concludes on return to Delhi.
End of tour: Depart with memories of Ladakh's wild landscapes and the eternal Taj Mahal.
