A high-altitude odyssey across the Himalayas traversing mountain passes, ancient valleys, turquoise lakes, and remote monasteries on the roof of the world.

Journey Through the Roof of the World

This 11-day Manali to Ladakh tour is one of India's most iconic high-altitude road journeys, designed for travellers seeking raw Himalayan landscapes, ancient Buddhist culture, and genuine adventure. Beginning in Manali, the route climbs over some of the world's highest motorable passes before descending into the moonscape valleys of Ladakh.

From the dunes of Nubra Valley and the double-humped Bactrian camels to the electric-blue stillness of Pangong Lake and the centuries-old traditions of the Aryan Valley, this tour offers experiences that are both geographically and culturally extraordinary.

Experience the World's Highest Motorable Roads

The Manali–Leh Highway traverses passes including Rohtang, Baralacha La, and Tanglang La — each offering dramatic, sweeping views found nowhere else on earth. Travelling this route means navigating terrain that opens only during summer months, making every kilometre feel earned and every vista unforgettable.

Discover Ladakh's Ancient Buddhist Heritage

Leh, the capital of Ladakh, serves as a base to explore a region where Tibetan Buddhist culture has flourished for centuries. Monasteries perched on cliffsides, prayer flags strung across mountain ridges, and the quiet rhythm of traditional life offer a depth of cultural immersion rarely found in mainstream tourism.

Marvel at Nubra Valley and Pangong Lake

Nubra Valley — accessible via the world's highest motorable pass, Khardung La — surprises visitors with its warm sand dunes set against icy peaks. Pangong Lake, stretching across the India–China border at over 4,350 metres, changes colour from deep blue to turquoise through the day, making it one of the most photographed landscapes in the Himalayas.

Explore the Rare and Remote Aryan Valley

The Aryan Valley — home to the Brokpa people, one of the last Indo-Aryan tribes in the region — is a seldom-visited destination offering a window into a distinct culture, unique architecture, and a way of life that has remained largely unchanged for generations.

Designed for International and Independent Travellers

The tour is managed with professional English-speaking guides and private air-conditioned vehicles, with all inner-line permits for restricted areas included. Whether you are an adventure traveller, a cultural explorer, or a photographer seeking extraordinary landscapes, this journey is crafted to deliver both comfort and authenticity.

Day 1: Arrival in Manali

Highlights: Manali orientation, Old Manali, Hadimba Temple

Arrive in Manali and check in to your hotel. Spend the day resting and getting acclimatised to the altitude before the demanding mountain journey ahead. In the evening, take a short walk through Old Manali — its timber-framed houses, narrow lanes, and the ancient Hadimba Temple set the tone for the mountain adventure to come.

Day 2: Manali to Sarchu

Highlights: Rohtang Pass, Atal Tunnel, Baralacha La, Himalayan passes

An early start for one of the most dramatic drives in the world. The route passes through the Atal Tunnel, crosses the high plains of Lahaul, and climbs to Baralacha La at approximately 4,890 metres. The landscape shifts from pine forests to stark, wide-open mountain desert. Arrive at Sarchu — a campsite settlement at 4,253 metres — for the night.

Day 3: Sarchu to Leh

Highlights: Gata Loops, Lachung La, Tanglang La, entry into Ladakh

Continue the high-altitude drive to Leh. The route winds through the famous Gata Loops — a series of 21 hairpin bends — crosses Lachung La (5,059 m) and Tanglang La (5,328 m, one of the world's highest motorable passes), before descending into the Indus Valley and arriving in Leh. Check in and rest to acclimatise.

Day 4: Leh — Rest and Acclimatisation Day

Highlights: Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, Leh Market, acclimatisation walk

A full rest day in Leh — essential for safe altitude acclimatisation before venturing to higher areas. Take a gentle morning walk to the Shanti Stupa for panoramic views of the city and surrounding mountains. Explore Leh Palace and the vibrant local bazaar at your own pace. Stay well-hydrated and avoid strenuous activity.

Day 5: Leh to Nubra Valley

Highlights: Khardung La (world's highest motorable pass), Diskit Monastery, sand dunes

Drive north over Khardung La at approximately 5,359 metres — one of the world's highest motorable passes — and descend into the warm, surprisingly lush Nubra Valley. Visit the famous Diskit Monastery with its giant Maitreya Buddha statue overlooking the valley. In the afternoon, explore the striking cold desert sand dunes of Hunder and, if available, take a short ride on the famous double-humped Bactrian camels.

Day 6: Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake

Highlights: Shyok River valley, mountain scenery, first views of Pangong

Drive from Nubra to Pangong Lake via the scenic Shyok River route — a journey through remote, sparsely inhabited valleys with dramatic mountain backdrops. As you approach Pangong, the lake gradually reveals itself in shades of deep blue and green that shift with the light. Arrive by afternoon and settle in to your lakeside camp or guesthouse. The silence and colour of this location are unlike anywhere else in the world.

Day 7: Full Day at Pangong Lake

Highlights: Sunrise and sunset at the lake, Chang La pass views, photography

A full day to spend at Pangong Tso (4,350 m), the iconic high-altitude lake stretching 134 km along the India–China border. Watch the water shift from sapphire to turquoise through the day. Take a lakeside walk, photograph the ever-changing colours, and simply absorb the immense stillness of this remarkable landscape. An extraordinary sunrise here is one of the most memorable moments on the entire route.

Day 8: Pangong Lake to Leh

Highlights: Chang La, Hemis Monastery, Thiksey Monastery

Drive back to Leh via Chang La pass (5,360 m). En route, visit Hemis Monastery — Ladakh's largest and most celebrated monastery, known for its festival and rich murals — and Thiksey Monastery, whose multi-storey complex perched on a hilltop is often compared to the Potala Palace of Lhasa. Arrive in Leh by evening and check in.

Day 9: Leh to Aryan Valley

Highlights: Brokpa villages, Dah and Biama villages, Indus River valley

Drive west from Leh along the Indus River into the remote Aryan Valley, home to the Brokpa people — believed to be descendants of Alexander the Great's soldiers and one of the last pure Indo-Aryan communities in India. Visit the villages of Dah and Biama, known for their distinctive traditional costumes, flower-adorned headgear, and unique customs that set them apart from the rest of Ladakh. Stay overnight in the valley.

Day 10: Aryan Valley to Leh

Highlights: Likir Monastery, Alchi Monastery, Indus valley drive

Drive back towards Leh along the scenic Indus Valley. En route, visit Likir Monastery — home to a large Maitreya Buddha and occupied by young monks — and Alchi, one of Ladakh's oldest surviving monasteries, notable for its rare 10th–11th century wood-carved sculptures and murals. Arrive in Leh by afternoon. Spend the final evening in the city exploring the market or relaxing.

Day 11: Leh — Departure

Highlights: Transfer to Kushok Bakula Rimpochhe Airport, Leh

After breakfast, transfer to Leh Airport for your onward flight. Tour concludes. Airport transfers are included. Flights are not included in the package — please arrange flights separately and inform us of your departure time.
