10-Day Rajasthan Train Tour & Heritage Package

Travelling Rajasthan the Right Way — by Train

India's rail network is one of the most extensive in the world, and travelling by train between cities is both practical and deeply experiential. On this tour, all inter-city journeys are made by train — in air-conditioned 1st or 2nd class carriages - allowing you to watch the North Indian landscape unfold from the carriage window, meet fellow travellers, and arrive in the heart of each city refreshed. It is a style of travel that connects you to India in a way that a car or flight simply cannot.

The cities on this route — Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, and Udaipur — represent the very best of North India's Mughal and Rajput heritage. Each has its own distinct character, architectural tradition, and cultural identity, and together they form one of the most rewarding travel circuits in Asia.

Delhi - A Capital of Contrasts

The tour begins in Delhi, India's vast and layered capital. Two full days here allow you to explore both Old Delhi and New Delhi's ceremonial avenues, UNESCO World Heritage monuments, and world-class museums. Delhi is a city of immense historical depth, and two days barely scratch its surface, but the itinerary is structured to give you a genuinely rich introduction before the train carries you south to Agra.

Agra - The Taj Mahal and Mughal Grandeur

The train from Delhi to Agra takes approximately two hours on the Gatimaan or Shatabdi Express. Agra is home to the Taj Mahal, one of the most celebrated buildings in the world, as well as Agra Fort. A day in Agra, beginning with the Taj Mahal at dawn, offers a concentrated and deeply moving experience of Mughal civilisation at its peak.

Jaipur - The Pink City of Rajputana

From Agra, the train to Jaipur takes you into Rajasthan proper. Jaipur was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Jai Singh II and is one of India's first planned cities. The old city, painted in shades of terracotta pink, is enclosed by a wall with seven gates. The Amber Fort on the hill above the city, the ornate Hawa Mahal, the City Palace complex still partly occupied by the royal family, and the 18th-century astronomical observatory of Jantar Mantar (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) all make Jaipur one of the richest cities on the entire tour.

Udaipur - The City of Lakes

Three nights in Udaipur is the longest single stop on the tour, and for good reason. Set among the Aravalli hills around a series of interconnected lakes — most famously Lake Pichola — Udaipur is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in India. The City Palace, a vast complex of palaces, courtyards, and museums built over several centuries by the Mewar royal dynasty, rises directly above the lake. Boat rides, old city walks through narrow lanes, visits to Jagdish Temple, and the gardens of Saheliyon ki Bari round out three deeply enjoyable days before the overnight train back to Delhi.

Designed for Comfort and Cultural Depth

This tour is suited to travellers who want to experience India's railway culture alongside its heritage. All train journeys are in air-conditioned carriages, accommodation is in well-regarded 3 to 4-star hotels, and a professional English-speaking guide accompanies you at each destination for all sightseeing days.

Day 1: Arrive in Delhi

Highlights: Airport arrival, hotel check-in, orientation, rest

Arrive at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. Our representative will meet you at the arrivals hall and transfer you by private vehicle to your hotel. After check-in, take the rest of the day to settle in and recover from your journey. In the evening, a gentle walk through your hotel neighbourhood or along Connaught Place gives you your first impression of the capital. Your guide will brief you on the days ahead over dinner or the following morning.

End of day: Overnight in Delhi.

Day 2: Delhi - Full Day Sightseeing

Highlights: Old Delhi, Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar, India Gate

A full day of guided sightseeing across both Old and New Delhi. Begin in Old Delhi at the Jama Masjid — one of the largest mosques in India, built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan — and explore the surrounding lanes of Chandni Chowk on foot or by cycle rickshaw, passing spice merchants, sweet shops, and silver bazaars that have operated here for centuries. In the afternoon, move into New Delhi for Humayun's Tomb (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the towering Qutub Minar complex, and a drive past India Gate and the ceremonial boulevard of Kartavya Path. Humayun's Tomb is especially worth visiting, as it directly inspired the design of the Taj Mahal.

End of day: Overnight in Delhi.

Day 3: Delhi to Agra by Train

Highlights: Morning train to Agra, Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, local marble craft workshop

Take an early morning train from Hazrat Nizamuddin or New Delhi station to Agra. On arrival, proceed directly to the Taj Mahal - ideally before mid-morning to catch the best light and smaller crowds. Your guide will share the full history of the monument, built by Emperor Shah Jahan between 1632 and 1653 in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. After the Taj, visit Agra Fort — the massive red sandstone fortification and UNESCO World Heritage Site that served as the main seat of Mughal imperial power. In the late afternoon, visit a local marble inlay workshop where artisans demonstrate the same pietra dura technique used in the Taj Mahal's decorative panels.

End of day: Overnight in Agra.

Day 4: Agra to Jaipur by Train

Highlights: Morning train to Jaipur, Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Jantar Mantar

After breakfast, take the morning train from Agra to Jaipur (approximately 3.5–4 hours). On arrival, check into your hotel and begin sightseeing in the afternoon. Head up to the Amber Fort — a magnificent hilltop palace complex built by the Rajput Maharajas, with intricate mirror-work interiors and panoramic views over Maota Lake. Back in the city, drive past the iconic five-storey Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) and visit the City Palace complex, which houses a museum of royal artefacts, textiles, and weapons. Jantar Mantar is a fascinating and often underrated stop worth an unhurried visit.

End of day: Overnight in Jaipur.

Day 5: Jaipur - A Full Day in the Pink City

Highlights: Nahargarh Fort, local bazaars, block-printing workshop, Jaipur cuisine

A full free day in Jaipur to explore at your own pace with your guide. Begin the morning with a visit to Nahargarh Fort on the ridge above the city, less visited than Amber but offering sweeping views over the walled city below, especially at sunrise or in the cool of early morning. Spend the afternoon wandering through Jaipur's famous bazaars: Johari Bazaar for gems and jewellery, Bapu Bazaar for textiles and leheriya fabric, and the lanes around the old city gates for lac bangles and block-printed cottons. In the evening, experience a Rajasthani thali dinner,  a traditional platter of dal baati churma, ker sangri, gatte ki sabzi, and an assortment of breads, chutneys, and sweets.

End of day: Overnight in Jaipur.

Day 6: Jaipur to Udaipur by Train

Highlights: Train journey to Udaipur, arrival, Lake Pichola, Old City first impressions

Take the morning train from Jaipur to Udaipur (approximately 5–6 hours). The journey passes through the rocky, dry landscape of southern Rajasthan — a scenic contrast to the plains of the north. Arrive in Udaipur in the early afternoon, check into your hotel, and spend the remaining daylight hours getting oriented in this strikingly beautiful city. A first walk along the ghats of Lake Pichola, with the City Palace rising dramatically above the water, and a stroll into the old city lanes around Jagdish Temple sets the tone for the days ahead. An evening boat ride on Lake Pichola at dusk is an excellent way to settle into Udaipur.

End of day: Overnight in Udaipur.

Day 7: Udaipur - City Palace & Old City

Highlights: City Palace Museum, Jagdish Temple, Bagore Ki Haveli, old city walking tour

Spend the day exploring Udaipur's most celebrated landmarks with your guide. The City Palace — a vast complex of palaces, terraces, towers, and museums built over several centuries by the Mewar royal dynasty — is the centrepiece of the city. Its museum houses an exceptional collection of paintings, armour, royal costumes, and decorative art. Nearby, the 17th-century Jagdish Temple is Udaipur's largest and most active Hindu temple, with intricate sculptural carvings covering its exterior. In the afternoon, explore Bagore Ki Haveli — an 18th-century mansion on the Gangaur Ghat converted into a museum of Rajasthani folk art and daily life — and walk through the atmospheric lanes of the old city around Lal Ghat.

End of day: Overnight in Udaipur.

Day 8: Udaipur - Lakes, Gardens & Surroundings

Highlights: Saheliyon ki Bari, Fateh Sagar Lake, Monsoon Palace (Sajjangarh), local craft experience

A second full day in Udaipur, this time venturing beyond the old city. Begin with Saheliyon ki Bari, a beautifully maintained 18th-century garden of fountains, kiosks, marble elephants, and lotus pools built for the royal ladies of the court. From here, drive to Fateh Sagar Lake, the second largest lake in Udaipur,  for a morning walk along its promenade. In the afternoon, take a short drive up to Monsoon Palace (Sajjangarh) on the Aravalli ridge above the city. Built in the late 19th century, it offers one of the finest panoramic views over Udaipur, its lakes, and the surrounding hills. The return to Udaipur in the evening allows time for a final dinner by the lake or at one of the old city's rooftop restaurants.

End of day: Overnight in Udaipur.

Day 9: Udaipur to Delhi by Train

Highlights: Morning at leisure, afternoon or overnight train to Delhi

Spend the morning at leisure in Udaipur, perhaps a final walk through the old city or a visit to a local miniature painting or pottery workshop. Depending on your train timing, check out of your hotel and transfer to Udaipur Railway Station for the train to Delhi. The overnight train is a comfortable and practical option — you travel through the night in an air-conditioned berth and wake up in Delhi, having saved a night's accommodation. If you prefer a daytime journey, a morning train can be taken instead, with arrival in Delhi in the evening.

End of day: Overnight train to Delhi (or overnight in Delhi if daytime train is taken).

Day 10: Delhi — Departure

Highlights: Arrive Delhi, transfer to the airport, departure

Arrive in Delhi in the morning (if travelling by overnight train). Freshen up at a hotel day room if required, or transfer directly to Indira Gandhi International Airport for your onward or return flight. If your flight departs later in the day, there may be time for a brief visit to a local market or the Crafts Museum near India Gate. Our team will ensure your airport transfer is timed to your departure.

End of tour. Safe travels home.
