Journey through the roof of the world, soaring high passes, stark desert valleys, double-humped camels, and a lake that mirrors the sky in electric blue.

Journey Through the Roof of the World

This carefully designed 8-day itinerary takes you through the most iconic landscapes of Ladakh, a high-altitude Himalayan desert that straddles India, Tibet, and Central Asia. Beginning in Leh, the ancient capital of the Ladakhi kingdom, the tour leads you across Khardungla Pass, one of the world's highest motorable roads—and down into the surreal Nubra Valley with its sweeping dunes and resident Bactrian camels. From Nubra, the route continues east through the remote village of Turtuk, reaching the sapphire expanse of Pangong Tso before returning through dramatic mountain terrain back to Leh.

This tour is designed for international travelers who want a genuine, unhurried experience of Ladakh, balanced between adventure, culture, and natural wonder, with professional support every step of the way.

Discover Ladakh's Dramatic Landscapes

Ladakh is unlike anywhere else on earth. At an average elevation above 3,500 meters, the landscape shifts from barren lunar plateaus to emerald river valleys fringed with poplar trees and ancient gompas. Crossing Khardungla Pass at approximately 5,359 meters is an experience that stays with travelers for a lifetime; the air is thin, the silence absolute, and the views of the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges are breathtaking.

Nubra Valley, carved by the Shyok and Siachen rivers, is a place of extraordinary contrasts: warm dunes rise beside cold-water streams, while Buddhist monasteries perch above apricot orchards. Pangong Lake, stretching from India into Tibet, changes color through the day, from silver at dawn, to brilliant blue at midday, to deep violet at dusk.

Explore the Hidden Village of Turtuk

Turtuk, only opened to tourists in 2010, is one of Ladakh's most distinctive destinations. This Balti-culture village near the Line of Control offers an intimate look at a community whose history, language, and architecture differ markedly from the rest of Ladakh. Walking through its narrow stone lanes, meeting local families, and tasting Balti cuisine are among the most memorable experiences this tour offers.

Designed for International Travelers

With extensive experience hosting guests from across the globe, this tour is fully supported with a private air-conditioned vehicle, a professional English-speaking guide, and carefully selected accommodation. All logistics — permits, road access, altitude considerations, and local arrangements — are handled for you, so you can focus entirely on the experience.

The pace of the itinerary allows time to acclimatize properly to the altitude, ensuring a safe and enjoyable journey. A dedicated rest day in Leh at the start of the tour is built in specifically for this purpose.

Day 1: Arrive Leh — First Impressions of Ladakh

Highlights: Arrival at Leh Airport, hotel check-in, first views of the Ladakhi mountains

Arrive at Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochhe Airport (altitude: ~3,524 m). You will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is completely free; this is intentional. Acclimatization is essential in Ladakh, and your body needs time to adjust to the altitude before any activity. Rest, drink plenty of water, and take short, gentle walks around the hotel area if you feel well enough. A light welcome dinner is arranged at the hotel.

End of day: Rest and acclimatize. Avoid strenuous activity.

Day 2: Leh Rest & Acclimatization Day — Local Exploration

Highlights: Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, Leh Market, and a visit to a local monastery

After a restful night, you should feel noticeably better. This day is dedicated to gentle sightseeing in and around Leh town. Visit the 17th-century Leh Palace, which dominates the old town skyline, and walk through the narrow lanes of the Leh Bazaar. In the afternoon, drive up to Shanti Stupa for panoramic views of the Indus Valley and surrounding peaks. You may also visit a nearby monastery such as Namgyal Tsemo.

End of day: Enjoy dinner in Leh. A good night's rest before tomorrow's drive to Nubra.

Day 3: Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardungla Pass

Highlights: Khardungla Pass (~5,359 m), Diskit Monastery, Nubra dunes, Bactrian camel ride

Depart early morning from Leh and drive north over the legendary Khardungla Pass — one of the highest motorable roads in the world. Stop at the summit to take in the extraordinary views of the Karakoram Range and capture the moment. Descend into the wide, green Nubra Valley, a dramatic contrast to the stark terrain above.

After arriving in Nubra, visit Diskit Monastery, the oldest and largest monastery in the valley, perched on a hilltop with a giant Maitreya Buddha statue overlooking the desert plains. In the afternoon, head to the famous Hunder dunes for an optional Bactrian double-humped camel ride, a uniquely Central Asian experience in the heart of the Himalayas.

End of day: Overnight at a guesthouse or camp in Nubra Valley.

Day 4: Nubra Valley — Excursion to Turtuk Village

Highlights: Turtuk village, Balti culture, Shyok River, organic apricot gardens

Today is dedicated to one of Ladakh's most rewarding side trips, the remote Balti village of Turtuk, located near the Line of Control and only accessible to tourists since 2010. The drive along the Shyok River is spectacular, passing through barren gorges and occasional green oases.

Turtuk feels unlike the rest of Ladakh — its culture, architecture, and language belong to the Balti tradition, closely tied to Baltistan across the border. Walk through the village lanes with your guide, visit a traditional Balti home, explore the ancient watermills, and taste locally grown apricots and Balti bread if in season.

Return to Nubra Valley in the evening.

End of day: Second overnight in Nubra.

Day 5: Nubra to Pangong Lake via Shyok Valley Route

Highlights: Shyok Valley drive, first sighting of Pangong Tso, lakeside sunset

Depart Nubra and drive southeast along the Shyok River, following a remote and scenic route to reach Pangong Tso, one of the world's highest saltwater lakes at approximately 4,350 meters. The lake stretches some 134 km from India to Tibet, with only the westernmost third falling within Indian territory.

Your first sighting of Pangong is unforgettable: the impossible blue-green water against a backdrop of bare brown mountains under a vast sky. Check in to your camp or guesthouse on the lakeshore. Spend the late afternoon walking along the shore, watching the light shift across the water.

End of day: Overnight stay by the lake. Experience the extraordinary silence and star-filled Pangong sky.

Day 6: Full Day at Pangong Lake

Highlights: Sunrise over Pangong, lakeside walks, color-shifting water, photography

Wake before dawn to witness sunrise at Pangong; the sky turns gold, then pink, then the lake shifts from silver to a deep, brilliant blue as the sun climbs. There is no agenda today: walk the shoreline at your own pace, photograph the stunning reflections, observe the migratory birds that visit the lake, and simply be present in one of India's most extraordinary natural settings.

Your guide can share the geological history of the lake, the region’s biodiversity, and the cultural significance of this landscape to the Ladakhi people. In the afternoon, explore the area further toward the village of Merak and Spangmik along the southern bank.

End of day: Second overnight at Pangong.

Day 7: Pangong to Leh via Chang La Pass

Highlights: Chang La Pass (~5,360 m), Hemis or Thiksey Monastery en route, return to Leh

Bid farewell to the lake and begin the drive back to Leh, crossing Chang La, another high-altitude pass with sweeping mountain views. On the way down, stop at either Hemis Monastery (Ladakh's largest and wealthiest gompa) or Thiksey Monastery, whose multi-story complex rising from a hilltop is often compared to the Potala Palace in Lhasa.

Arrive in Leh by late afternoon. The evening is free for independent exploration, shopping at the Leh Bazaar for local crafts, or a final relaxed dinner at one of Leh's excellent restaurants.

End of day: Final overnight in Leh.

Day 8: Leh Departure

Highlights: Airport transfer, tour concludes

After breakfast, check out of your hotel. Your guide and driver will transfer you to Leh Airport for your onward flight. Please note that early morning flights are common from Leh; airport departure times will be planned around your confirmed flight schedule.

The tour concludes. We hope Ladakh leaves you with memories that last a lifetime.
